Mic On Podcast, host Seun Okinbaloye engaged in an exclusive discussion with Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, a prominent Human Rights Lawyer and Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission. They took a deep dive into pressing issues including the EFCC’s controversy with crossdresser Bobrisky, the concept of state policing in Nigeria, and the prosecution of former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele.
Prof. Odinkalu didn’t mince words when addressing the EFCC’s actions against Bobrisky. He criticized the commission, suggesting that its focus on pursuing a crossdresser stems from societal discomfort rather than genuine concerns about financial misconduct.
Prof Odinkalu highlighted the irony of targeting Bobrisky while prominent figures, including the vice president, have been captured on camera engaging in questionable donations.
On the topic of state policing, Prof. Odinkalu shared his perspective, emphasizing the need to decentralize policing efforts and allocate operational decision-making power where it’s most needed.
However, he cautioned against rushing into implementing state police in Nigeria’s current political climate, deeming it irresponsible.
The conversation also turned to the prosecution of former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele. Prof. Odinkalu pointed out the importance of holding Emefiele accountable but didn’t stop there. He raised questions about the role of former president Buhari in the matter, suggesting that Emefiele’s actions couldn’t have occurred without Buhari’s approval.
Prof. Odinkalu highlighted the clarity of the CBN Act regarding financial thresholds and suggested that both Emefiele and Buhari should face prosecution.
Prof. Chidi Odinkalu’s insights on the Mic On Podcast shed light on critical issues within Nigeria’s legal and political landscape, sparking important conversations about accountability, governance, and the rule of law.
