A chat with Hon. Shina Peller

In this episode of the Mic On Podcast, former House of Representatives member, Hon. Shina Peller, opened up about his political journey, from his failed bid to return to the National Assembly and his recent move to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Expressing his disappointment and sense of betrayal within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Peller emphasized the importance of equity, fairness, and justice in political processes, “If I can sacrifice a second term ticket in the name of equity, fairness & justice; because these three factors are very important in building peace, I felt betrayed for APC to give a third term ticket to the person I’m contesting with.” He says.

Reflecting on his experience with the Accord Party, Peller described the challenges of running on a third-party platform in the political landscape, noting that “With the experience I got in Accord Party, running on a third party apart from the PDP or APC is hell of a stress.”

While he also highlighted the PDP as a stable and enduring political entity, advocating for the party to empower young leaders and embrace new ideas, Hon. Peller underscored the importance of collective action and the involvement of skilled professionals in tackling Nigeria’s issues,

“One man cannot solve the problem of Nigeria. We need to create a team and we need to bring the patriotic Nigerians forward who are good at what they do.”

Beyond politics, Mr Peller also discussed his transition from the nightclub business, notably Quilox, to politics, emphasizing his commitment to community development. “When I joined politics five years ago, I already completely moved out of Quilox. I’ve not run Quilox for the past 5 years. I’ve created an establishment that has helped a lot of people. If you go to the entertainment industry today and you see all these top names; talk about Wizkid, you want to talk about Davido, you want to talk about Burna Boy, their success stories are not complete without Quilox.”
