A chat with Kenneth Okonkwo

The voice of opposition in Nigeria remains resolute even in the aftermath of the done and dusted 2023 general elections.

Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, is voicing his concerns on the state of the nation and he went all the way.

I Okwonkwo criticized Nigeria’s current leadership, citing issues with security and economic challenges. “Anarchy looms in Nigeria! You can see the total absence of government in the security and welfare of the people”. He said.

He also delved into the Labour Party’s internal struggles, highlighting growing tensions within the party’s leadership, and criticized the Abure faction’s approach to the Labour Party’s National Convention as “unconstitutional, unconventional, and very abusive.

” He stated, “If I were Julius Abure, I would not contest to be Chairman of the Labour Party.”

He maintained his stance on the Muslim-Muslim ticket of Tinubu-Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that it was unconstitutional. Mr. Okonkwo lamented the government’s concentration of power within a select group, accusing it of nepotism and favoritism. He said, “This government is something worse than nepotism. It is a familitocracy! Do you know what it means when you place your children in order of protocol before the Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria? Your wife is in power with the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in terms of manpower, and security? What do you call that eyesore?”

Meanwhile, he also advocated for Peter Obi’s leadership, believing it would address national grievances and alleviate tensions, including those surrounding the Biafran agitation. He stated, “Peter Obi is an inspiring leader. If he were to be President, the ghost of the Biafran agitation would be exorcised.”

In addition to his political commentary, Okonkwo reflected on his career in Nollywood, highlighting his success as an actor. He spoke about his desire for a better Nigeria. “I have made a fortune as a Nollywood actor. The only thing that will make me take a role in acting is if Nigeria becomes better than America.” He said.
