Pastor Sam Adeyemi, founder and Senior Pastor of the Daystar Christian Centre, addressed a range of critical issues facing Nigeria during a recent episode of Mic on Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye. Adeyemi emphasized that “leadership is the major problem in Nigeria, in Africa, and actually, it is a global problem.” He stressed that the lack of effective leadership is a significant barrier to the country’s development, highlighting the need for visionary leaders who can see where Nigeria can be tomorrow.
In his critique of the current Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu, Pastor Adeyemi expressed concerns about the lack of a clear vision, remarking, “I have not seen anything that looks like a focused vision from the present (Tinubu’s government) in Nigeria. I don’t think so. The country is very divided right now.” He therefore urged Nigerian leaders to seek guidance from leadership coaches and advisers to improve their governance.
Despite these challenges, the strategic leadership expert also praised the Nigerian youth, stating,
“I am not disappointed in the average Nigerian youth in how they relate to politics and governance. To see young people in Nigeria passionate about seeing the country change gives me phenomenal hope.”
He also highlighted the pivotal role churches play in Nigerian society, advocating for exemplary leadership from religious institutions. He asked Christians “to demonstrate the highest quality of leadership in our country,” asserting that “leadership by sacrifice should be demonstrated by church leaders,” and that the church would add massive value to the country. He pointed out that “churches are not given enough credit for what they have done and what they do (feeding people, paying hospital bills, school fees and things that they don’t make noise about).”
While addressing issues related to family and financial integrity, the Daystar Christian Centre founder called for intentional parenting and value-based living, emphasizing the importance of financial responsibility. He advised that
“Parenting should be intentional. Put values over money. If you are going to build wealth and if you are going to retain it, have the culture of saving and go beyond it to invest in things that will increase its value with time.”
